FBC Winona News & Updates 8-23-17

August 23, 2017

WOW!

When I look back on what this summer has held for FBC Winona, that is the word I use. It’s not just because we’ve had a service titled that on Wednesday nights, but because of what has come out of that, plus the great SOS meetings, the July 4th event, VBS, great worship experiences, new people visiting our church, and people stepping up in to leadership roles and doing a great job. When you add to that 3 babies being born into our fellowship, a successful blood drive, and I say to you there has been NO summer slump at FBC Winona!

Our last WOW Service is TONIGHT at 6:30 pm. Come early at 5:45 for dinner and stay late for dessert fellowship after. In between we are going to have some powerful worship and then we are going to focus the theme of our service tonight on testimony. What has God shown you? What is He doing in your life? What are you struggling with that you need to share and let people pray for you about? That’s our theme tonight. I already have three signed up and we will open the floor up for more. It’s going to be a powerful night, I can already tell.

Thank you to all who took on leadership roles with WOW – from Gary and Barbara coordinating the meals to Bruce, Tim, Brian Flens and others working the media booth, to Teresa providing children’s messages, to Nan coordinating testimonies and special music, to Bryan providing icebreakers and speaking several times, those who provided special music like Shannon & Jessica, Rhonda, Sherri, on and on.

I know she’s mine, but I especially want to say a big thank you to Kylee for planning the music each week and doing such a great job leading it. Thanks to Timothy, Jessica, Sydney and Krista for lending your voices and playing to our worship each week. I’m going to miss this and I hope we can find a way to carry some of these elements forward in our Wednesday night gatherings for adults.

Thinking back to our SOS meetings that we’ve had, I know many had no idea what these were going to be about and honestly, I let it kind of take shape as it went along to evaluate where we are as a church and where we need to go, moving forward. These meetings were immensely helpful and gave the impetus for us making some needed changes and causing us to look at what we need to do to move forward. One of those things is clearly an emphasis on hands-on ministry, and I’m praying for God’s direction in that endeavor going forward. I ask you to join me in that.

I could go on and on, really, when I look at how people like Machelle Burnham have stepped into leading our Sunday School program, with Danny assisting her, as well as Danny now being activated as an active deacon. I could add Rickey and Stephanie Parker taking leadership of VBS and also teaching in our children’s Sunday School.

It’s been a good and productive summer at FBC Winona, and we are going to finish it with a bang.

SATURDAY – We are in need of a few hours of labor from some folks Saturday morning to move some “stuff” as we re-arrange a couple of closets in the gym and get things cleaned up in the gym for our fall ministries. We’ll start at 8am. Rickey Parker will be coordinating this effort.

SATURDAY NIGHT – Tim Vassar is now our Men’s Ministry leader and he’s inviting all men and boys Saturday evening for a hamburger grill night at 6pm. We’ll provide everything for the meal. If some want to bring some desserts, that would be super. This is a great time to bring guests. We’ll have a special guest speaker as well. Spread the word.

SUNDAY EVENING – With school beginning in Winona Monday morning, we will have our 2nd annual prayer gathering around the flagpole at Winona High School Sunday evening at 6:30 pm. Last year it was a great time with a few other churches joining us and I know it will be a great time this year as well. Spread the word

LADIES EVENTS – Two events are upcoming for our ladies that you need to sign-up for. Sister2Sister Rally will be Thursday, September 28th at Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Longview. Meal will be served from 6-7 and worship will begin at 7pm. Sign up online here: http://whbchurch.com/sister2sister/ – over 100 signed up in the first 24 hours it was posted.

LADIES RETREAT is November 10-11 at Timberline in Lindale. Cost is $65, with a $20 deposit due at sign-up. Sign-up is on Welcome Center table.

That’s enough words for now – be blessed and I hope to see you tonight AND Sunday

Bro. Tony
